We hope that many blessed memories are being made by all families celebrating the Festival of Dedication. Below are
just a few more ideas that we have benefitted from this Chanukah.
Check out your library for the Heritage video
series: "Civilization and the Jews" (narrated by Abba Eban), a very eye-opening
documentary presented in nine 1-hour sessions. In these films history
repeats itself over and over again, and a warning is impressed upon our hearts,
as an Israelite people, to embrace the spirit of the Maccabees, and to be
willing to give our all for Yahweh our Father and Messiyah, and His
Torah.
Also, here are some beautiful stories which you may
want to check out at your library. "By The Hanukkah Light" (by Sheldon
Oberman) displays the beauty of a multigenerational concept, a passing on of our
heritage to generation after generation. "One Yellow Daffodil" (by David
A. Adler) is a very beautiful story of a man who thought he lost all in Nazi
Germany, but who finds love and hope and light again.
Last of all, here is a yummy latke recipe that is
very easy to make. This is one of my (Rivqah's) original recipes. I
actually created it before we ever started keeping Chanukah, in an effort to
imitate a McDonald's hash brown. :-) What it really is, though, is a
latke.
A Maccabee's Hash Brown
:-)
4½ cups potato, peeled and
grated
2 medium eggs
salt, pepper, garlic, and onion powder to
taste
Pour just a small amount of olive oil in
skillet. Press potato mixture firmly into a fourth a cup, and dump into
skillet. Flatten slightly. Fry until well done. Keep adding
oil as needed, but only a little at a time. Drain latkes on paper towels
before serving.
Variations: Add cheese, olives, beef or
chicken boillun, etc. for different flavors.
Shalom, and may your families be blessed with
Yahshua's light in this season and all seasons to come. Blessings to you
